I’m pretty much on the same page as Kazu. I think you feel someone is kind when they turn their thoughtfulness into something tangible—and when you can actually feel that thoughtfulness.

Generally speaking, I think a kind person is someone who is considerate of others. However, when the phrase above comes up in the context of papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), I personally take it to mean either a yes-man or a yes-woman.
Lately, I’ve come to think that someone is being called “kind” when they agree to the allowance and continuing the relationship without ever saying no.
Of course, if you ask whether yes-men aren’t kind, I’d say they do fall into the kind category—but it feels slightly different.

Thank you for your question.
Instead, it may help to think about what makes a papa (a male supporter) kind—what exactly makes you feel that someone is being kind.
That may help you understand what “kind” really means.
If you’ve never thought of him as kind, then perhaps you simply don’t understand the meaning of the word itself.

I started wondering what kindness really means, but the person asking the question had already provided the answer. As you said, I think it’s “caring about the other person.”
