What does papa-katsu mean to you? I sometimes feel overwhelmed by guilt and find myself questioning what papa-katsu really is, but I can’t come up with an answer.

I’m Flagmaker, a columnist. papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) is a relationship involving money. Nothing more, nothing less—it isn’t necessarily deep or shallow, and I don’t think that makes it inherently good or bad. It would be easier if I could see it as just that, but, well… that’s not so simple. Maybe I’d have fewer of these worries if I had more money.

I’m Fullerene, a male member! I suppose it’s a part of life. It’s okay if you don’t find an answer through self-reflection. If you weren’t doing papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), you wouldn’t even have the chance to reflect on yourself through this experience.

Maezawa from the CEO’s office here, answering your question as well. Thank you for your question. This isn’t “An Evening of Philosophy,” so I don’t think there’s much point in overthinking what it is. It’s like asking yourself, “What exactly is bushido?” and never arriving at an answer... (Though there is that famous saying, “I have discovered that the Way of the Warrior is death”...) What matters is knowing what you want. I think it’s best to consider what you need to achieve that, and then take action.
