The basic approach is the same, even if the location is far away. You might even enjoy it more if you treat it like a little trip and look forward to seeing somewhere new.
One thing to keep in mind is to make sure you receive the round-trip travel expenses upfront. You can say:
“I was told by the club that I would receive the actual cost of transportation upfront…”
That should ease worries like, “When will I receive it?” or “Will I really be reimbursed?”
Other than that, just enjoy the date as you normally would.
In rare cases, some men may try to pressure you into an adult relationship (intimate), saying things like, “I paid for your bullet train ticket, and you’re just going home?”
But that’s a separate matter, so don’t let it concern you. Just judge, as you normally would, whether you’re comfortable responding to that particular man.
Also, even if the date ends with dinner only (no intimacy), the rules state that you should receive a gratuity called “travel expenses” (¥5,000–¥10,000), separate from the actual transportation costs.
Make sure you receive that at the meal as well.
