We love each other, but I’m afraid he’ll get tired of me, so I can’t let myself love him wholeheartedly. What mindset should I have when dealing with my papa (a male supporter)?

Maezawa from the CEO’s office here. Thanks for your question. I’ve always thought the order was: Like < Really like < Love So I assumed love was a step above really liking someone, but… You can love someone without being able to really like them??? Well, I suppose “loving each other” here doesn’t mean love in the true sense, but rather that you have an intimate relationship. It’s a pretty complicated situation. Still, maybe the way things are now is actually best? You like them, but don’t really like them that much— keeping a little emotional distance. That seems like the best approach to me.

I’m Flag Maker, a columnist. Could it be that you were hurt by a past relationship where you fell deeply in love, but your feelings eventually made the other person grow tired of you? The issue may not be your relationship with your current papa (a male supporter), but that you’re still carrying the wounds from that past experience. People are different, and this time, he’s an older papa who gives you an allowance. I hope that by expressing your feelings honestly, you’ll be able to overcome that fear from the past.

I’m Tetsu, a male member. I don’t understand being afraid of getting bored with someone and therefore not allowing yourself to love them deeply. If you like someone, it’s okay to simply like them. And it’s also perfectly fine not to force yourself to fall deeply in love. Whatever kind of relationship it is, the time will eventually come when you part ways. It’s only a question of whether that happens sooner or later. So while I’m in a relationship, I choose to enjoy it to the fullest—and I put that into practice. I don’t want to have any regrets.

I’m Hajime Hara from the Universe Yokohama branch. I’m sorry if I’ve misunderstood your intent. I think “losing interest in someone” can happen even in a normal romantic relationship between a boyfriend and girlfriend. It probably depends on why you like him, but if you genuinely do, why not honestly tell your papa (a male supporter) how you feel? This may be an extreme example, but if you love him because of the financial support he provides, I personally think it’s best to continue playing the role of someone deeply in love as part of a pseudo-romantic relationship. If you love him so much that you want him to be your boyfriend—or could even see him as a lifelong partner—then, depending on his circumstances, I think it’s perfectly fine to be straightforward and tell him how strongly you feel.

I’m Kazu, a male member. Mac has a great saying: “An allowance is a condom for the heart.” I think it’s best to interact with your papa with the mindset that your relationship exists within the boundaries of an allowance arrangement. In other words, how about thinking of him as someone you love as a papa? As for being bored with you, I think that’s a separate issue from your mindset. To keep your favorite papa from getting bored, try not to repeat the same date routine or always have sex in the same way. Just make an effort to avoid falling into a rut.
