We met around lunchtime, and after about an hour of eating, having a few drinks, and chatting without any problems, I asked, “What would you like to do next?” She said she had plenty of time, so I made a phone reservation and we went to a room. As soon as we arrived, she said she was going out to buy some drinks, so I gave her some money. When she still hadn’t come back after several dozen minutes, I assumed she had ghosted me and left right away. I’ve been a UC member for a long time, but apart from last-minute cancellations, this was a first for me. I have a question for both male and female members: Have women who disappear without saying anything become more common in recent years, or was this just a one-off? Looking back, she stepped away from the table five or six times during the meal to take phone calls—she works in sales—and complained about becoming divorced, though maybe I’m reading too much into it, haha. When UC contacted her, she said she hadn’t even entered the room. If she had simply apologized, I could have accepted it to some extent, but instead she made it seem as though I was lying and harassing her. It was a good lesson that there are people like this out there.

I’m Date◎Yume, a male member. All sorts of things happen at dating clubs, which is what makes them interesting. I’ve even had a female member come out of the bath already wearing her underwear after we bathed together, so I’d say this is still better than that(笑).

Maezawa from the President’s Office will answer as well. Thank you for your question. There are quite a few points I’d like to address. > I have a question for both male and female members: Have more women been disappearing without saying anything in recent years? I’m not sure why you’re asking the members here rather than the staff. The people answering questions here are generally those who haven’t had any trouble, which means they’re unlikely to have done something like that in the first place. And it’s difficult for them to know whether other members have behaved that way. Perhaps you simply wanted to ask about something whose answer you already knew, but I still find myself wondering why. > I made a phone reservation, and as soon as we entered the room, she said she was going to buy some drinks, so I gave her money. If you gave her money because she said she was going to buy drinks, most people would assume it was money for the drinks. But what exactly was the money for? Leaving without saying anything is certainly discourteous. Still, if the money was for drinks, I can imagine that something like this might happen. (If it was under ¥10,000, it could be taken as the transportation fee under the club’s rules, and even if it was more, it might still have been interpreted that way.) If it was actually the allowance for an adult relationship (intimate), then the timing seems strange. Why give it to her then? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to give it to her after she returned from buying the drinks? > When UC contacted the woman, she said she had not entered the room. It’s also possible that she didn’t realize the room was where you were going after dinner. Maybe she felt unable to say so, came as far as the room, and then decided she couldn’t go any further. In that case, “I’m going to buy some drinks” may have been her way of saying, “I can’t have an adult relationship.” As for whether she entered the room or not, perhaps from her perspective she had only just stepped inside and therefore hadn’t really entered, while from the man’s perspective, she had taken about three steps inside, so she had entered. In any case, if you had already given her the allowance, it’s hard to imagine anything more upsetting. From now on, if she says she’s going to buy drinks, I think you should wait until she returns before giving her the allowance. Also, it’s possible that this woman didn’t expect to go to a hotel. (If her dating type was C or D, that would seem like an extremely serious misunderstanding, so perhaps she was type B?) I hope you’ll invite her clearly and politely, in a way that leaves no room for misunderstanding. Small misunderstandings can lead to situations like this. I hope you’ll take this experience as a lesson and use it to avoid similar problems next time.

I’m Kazu, a male member. I’ve never had an experience like that. You really do encounter all kinds of things. That’s what makes dating clubs interesting.
