I’m a male member, and I’ve been concerned about the recent coronavirus situation. Since the female members are young, many of them may be asymptomatic even if infected, while us older men may be more likely to develop symptoms due to our age. I’m gradually becoming worried. Do any of the male members take personal precautions or make adjustments when making offers? Of course, I could simply stop making offers, but there’s also that side of us horny old men that makes us want to continue, especially at times like this.

Maezawa from the President’s Office here as well. Sorry it took me a little while to confirm the details. What “Lost 60s” described is a variation of online dating. Some people may prefer exchanging emails or LINE messages because they feel they can learn more about the other person’s personality through their writing. And by continuing to communicate, they can meet whenever they want once the coronavirus situation settles down. If both parties are comfortable, they can also exchange phone numbers and talk directly. Separately, I think there are also people who want to communicate with someone before meeting, get to know each other and build up some excitement, and then meet in person. If you can get talking about things you have in common beforehand, it seems like you could start having a good time as soon as you meet. We received a request along the lines of, “It would be great if you could arrange email exchanges as well. I’d be happy to pay a setup fee, just as usual.” So, on this occasion, we made special arrangements for the two parties to exchange emails. That said, it was actually the staff at the branch who handled it. The staff at the branch in charge were happy to take it on in order to meet Lost 60s’ request, which was a great help. However, this is not yet an official service. If there is enough demand, I’ll put in a request with the head of the Customer Success group, so please let us know if you would be interested. I’m sorry, but I can’t guarantee that it will be possible.

I’m Date◎Yume, a male member. > Female members are young, so even if they’re infected, many may be asymptomatic. But older guys may be more likely to develop symptoms because of their age. I’m older myself, so I’m careful too. About a week before meeting, we check in with each other about our health. In particular, we make sure there haven’t been any changes in our sense of taste, sense of smell, or temperature. If I’m making an offer, I think it would be best to set the date for roughly a week after she accepts, and check in with each other about our health during that time.

I’m Flag Maker, a column writer. I don’t have online dating as an option. I’m bad at fake smiles, and people often tell me I have “the kind of eyes that look like I’m about to kill someone,” so I don’t feel confident showing my good side through online dating. I’ve only ever had discreet dates arranged through in-person meetings.

I’m Basil, a male member. I’m continuing with papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) without paying any particular attention to COVID. If anything, I’ve started avoiding love hotels, which feel more enclosed, since hotel rates have come down. Hotels outside Tokyo became very affordable through the Go To Travel campaign, so this trend will probably continue for a while. Also, all my new connections are online dates now, but that’s less because of COVID and more because it’s simply better in terms of time and cost. Since my plans have been canceled because of COVID, I’ve been doing online dates like crazy. As a result, new partners have joined my existing ones, and I’m actually going on more in-person dates than I was before COVID. I happened to catch a glimpse of a daytime talk show during last week’s four-day holiday. It had that style of making everything entertaining while deliberately stoking a sense of crisis. It made me realize once again that, with more people watching these programs regularly because of working from home and the like, they’re contributing to the emergence of people who overreact to COVID.

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. It doesn’t look like I’ll need to make any offers for a while, so I’m going to keep enjoying my peaceful dates as usual. I’ll think about it again once some time has passed after the festival.

I’m a 60-something feeling a little lost. Good news… maybe? At the moment, I can’t do arranged dates, and I don’t want to do online dates either. But I came up with a new approach, proposed it to Mr. Maezawa, and became the first person to try it. I’m not sure whether the details will be made public, so please ask Mr. Maezawa… 😅

I’m Kazu, a male member. If someone is open to online arrangements, I make them an offer online. If their profile doesn’t say whether they’re open to it, I usually ask anyway. If they’re not open to online arrangements, I add them to my favorites but don’t make an offer. Also, when I meet someone for a date, I choose a restaurant with a private or semi-private room. I feel it slightly reduces the risk of catching COVID from people other than my date, and it also makes it easier to have more personal conversations without worrying too much about those around us. Other than that, the only thing I can think of is not going on dates at all…
