If you upgrade your membership partway through the term—for example, six months before it expires—you’ll pay the difference, and the upgraded membership will be valid for one year from that point. This effectively gives you six additional months beyond the original validity period.

If you pay the difference, you can upgrade your membership, and the new tier is valid for one year from that point—meaning you don’t have to pay membership fees for the remainder of your current term. I thought it was a rare, especially favorable system for men at this club, so I followed Mac’s strategy and started in a lower tier before upgrading partway through.
But when you think about it carefully, while the overall cost doesn’t change, the club can earn far more from the higher setting fees and offers to women in the upper tier than it loses in waived membership fees.
It’s a win-win—or rather, a clever way of using bait to catch a big fish.

I changed it midway too, so I’m not sure which one it is…
I switched because I thought it would make things shorter, but I vaguely remember reading that it could actually take as long as a year from that point.
