Do men know that they’ll get a call about five minutes before the meeting? They won’t be confused and wonder what’s going on when I suddenly call, right?

Maezawa from the Corporate Planning Office here as well. > Do men know that they’ll receive a call about five minutes before the meeting time? Now that you mention it, I don’t think we specifically told men who joined some time ago about the five-minute call. However, I believe we do explain it to new male members during their interviews. The club used to tell female members something like: “Please call the man when it’s time and meet up with him.” But now we’ve changed it to: “Once you arrive, please call the gentleman when it’s about five minutes before the scheduled time.” That said, I think calling five minutes beforehand is well within the bounds of common sense. > They’re not going to suddenly think, “What’s this call about?” are they? I don’t think they would. However, we do allow women to call from a private number. I’ve heard of men receiving a call from a withheld number, assuming it was from the woman, answering it, and then panicking when it turned out to be a business associate.

I’m a confused man in my 60s. I had no idea. I’ve been a member for about five years. In the past, the women would call me right at the agreed meeting time. But at some point, they started calling earlier, and every time it happened, I found myself disappointed, wondering if I had somehow started choosing women like that. I never felt happy about getting an early call. Even when I arrived just before the meeting place within the agreed time, it made me look late, and I ended up apologizing. I found myself wondering why they couldn’t just be punctual. When did the club start instructing women to do this?

I’m Date◎Yume, a male member. > You wouldn’t be thinking, “Why are you calling me out of the blue?” would you? No, you wouldn’t. It’s perfectly fine! If anything, you might be thinking, “Here we go!” and smiling to yourself(笑) Though if you answer casually with a cheerful “Yeah, yeah!” it might turn out to be one of your subordinates… I can already picture them getting inexplicably chewed out: “Why are you calling me at this hour?!”(笑)

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. Once, a woman called me about 10 minutes before our first date, which caught me by surprise. Still, I feel that the earlier you contact someone, the better the impression tends to be. Thanks to that, I started making a point of arriving more than 10 minutes early. Other than that first time, everyone has contacted me fairly close to the meeting time. I don’t know exactly how many minutes beforehand they usually call, but I think it’s best to reach out a little early, so five minutes before seems just right. Since men are looking forward to the meeting, I think even a slightly earlier call is likely to leave a better impression. Recently, I’ve only been going on dates online, so it feels nostalgic to meet up with someone we already know, where either of us can contact the other.

I’m Rin, a female member. I’ve never encountered anyone who reacted that way before. Men do tend to give their real names rather than their club names, though. Even if I arrive early, if the person I’m meeting isn’t there, I call about five minutes beforehand, just as the club instructed.
