I always enjoy reading this site.
I’m a member of the club who falls into the older age group.
On first dates, when we’re traveling by car with the gentleman driving, I get the impression that many of them hold my hand and don’t let go. I’d appreciate it if someone could explain the psychology behind that.
Every gentleman I’ve met has done this.
Is it because they’re looking forward to seeing me again, or simply because they like me?

I’m a lost man in my 60s.
I don’t drive, so I’m talking about taxi rides.
I’d be too embarrassed to reach out and hold a woman’s hand myself, but there have been a few times when a woman took mine.
She said she wanted to calm her anxiety about what lay ahead, but I suppose women and men are different… For some reason, I still clearly remember the feel of their sweaty palms… lol.

I don’t think I’d have the courage to hold her hand unless she showed at least a little interest in me first.
On the other hand, I’d be really happy if she started reaching for my hand. I’ll do my best to make that happen.

As the male respondent said, he may be testing how receptive you are by watching your reaction, while also simply wanting to get closer and hold your hand. It could be both.
Women do the same thing, right? If we’re not emotionally receptive to someone—even if we’re connected physically—we may barely apply any pressure. But with someone we’re looking forward to seeing again, we might hold on more firmly.
That said, one person kept squeezing my hand the entire time without letting go, even when I didn’t squeeze back. It honestly just made me feel nauseous. I wonder if he didn’t get the hint…

People who want to hold hands probably really would like to do so in public, but they hold back because they’re conscious of what others might think.
In a car, though, they can hold hands without worrying about being seen, so I think anyone who wants to hold hands will do it there.
Why hold hands?
Well, didn’t you hold hands with your partner when you were young?
I think it’s probably that.
Maybe men are still children at heart, no matter how old they get. (（笑）)

With A- or B-type women, when I’m seeing them off after our first meeting, I gauge the chemistry and level of interest from how they squeeze my hand or touch me back, and imagine whether things might progress to kissing before we part ways.
