Women’s exact ages are entered strictly, including their birthdays, so the system automatically calculates their ages. If you pay close attention, you can sometimes figure out someone’s birthday from the day her age changes.
(I haven’t asked exactly when the system performs the calculation, so depending on the timing, it could be off by about a day.)
For men, however, the age is self-reported.
Since their ID is usually a driver’s license, we can find out their actual age, so I believe most men list their real age. That said, quite a few men ask us to present a different age to women.
They don’t want their offer rejected based on the age shown on their profile—they want the woman to meet them first and decide for herself. So when describing the man at the time of an offer, we intentionally use a broader description, such as “a man in his 40s.”
However, that description is never updated. So even if a man joined at 48 and turned 51 three years later, he may still be listed as “a man in his 40s.”
Women probably feel the same way—they don’t want to be judged solely by their profile and would rather meet in person and be evaluated then. But due to the way the system works, men are given preferential treatment here.
So, in short, men’s ages are approximate and are often still listed as they were when they joined. ＞＜
