Has anyone had a papa (a male supporter) ask to meet less often or reduce the allowance because his company’s performance suddenly worsened due to COVID-19?

I’m Meg, a female member. Maybe it’s because my partners work in industries that haven’t been affected? Thankfully, there’s been no change in either the frequency or my allowance. I’m doing papa-katsu pretty casually, so I almost feel bad answering here when some of you seem to be in such desperate situations. Looking at Twitter, I get the feeling that more and more people are finding themselves in that position. There seem to be quite a few male members who, like Basil, get approached by women (^_^;) > An extra bonus is cute and all Hikōkiya, you’re incredibly generous… Completely unrelated, but the other day at a graduation ceremony, “365 Days’ Paper Airplane” was playing along with a DVD. It’s such a beautiful song no matter how many times I hear it. I cried. > Mr. Magistrate, you’re absolutely smitten with your partner. Hehe.

Maezawa from the Corporate Planning Office here as well. I haven’t heard anything like that so far. If things did come to that, though, I think we’d be more likely to part ways than reduce anything. I imagine the other person would find it disrespectful to suggest reducing it, and I’d probably feel pretty uncool doing that myself. > I saw in the news that a private company is giving all its employees a ¥100,000 emergency bonus ahead of the government. Great news—I’m thinking we should consider an emergency bonus too, even as early as tomorrow, to boost employee morale. I saw the same news. It’s amazing that they’re going that far. If they’re giving ¥100,000 to each person, for a total of just under ¥40 million, does that mean they employ just under 400 people? The rules—that the money must all be spent by April 30, that receipts must be submitted, and that it can’t be used for gift certificates, stocks, loans, rent, and so on—also make the purpose of stimulating the economy clear. It’s good that they’re making sure it doesn’t end up being used for savings.

I’m Basil, a male member. I’m an office worker, and although the company has experienced a temporary slump in performance, it remains solid and my employment conditions haven’t changed, so this hasn’t affected my papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) activities. If anything, with meetings and business trips canceled—and even weekend events called off—I have more free time than I know what to do with, so I’ve actually been meeting people more often. Closer to home, it seems the work of a freelance woman I used to see has dried up considerably. She’s been bombarding me with messages saying she suddenly wants to meet and that she’s struggling, and I don’t know how to handle it.

I’m a male member, “Paper Airplane.” Given the circumstances, I give them extra allowance when we do meet—enough to make up for more than the meetings they’ve missed. Once I’ve given them the money, I don’t have to contact them about meeting up, so I can relax without worrying about either COVID or the women. P.S. The news just said that private companies are issuing ¥100,000 emergency bonuses ahead of the government. Great news—maybe I’ll consider giving my employees an emergency bonus as early as tomorrow to boost morale. > Mr. Maezawa, thank you. So we have to submit receipts too. Depending on the location, our shop’s sales have been cut in half, and shifts have been drastically reduced, especially for part-timers. But when I think about businesses overseas, or even Disney, shutting down, it’s frightening. And compared with having to pay leave allowances if that happened to us, an emergency bonus is nothing.

I’m Date◎Yume, a male member. I know we’re really supposed to refrain from dates and the like while the coronavirus is spreading, but I haven’t(笑). I’d like to lower the allowance too, but she’s waiting for me, so I’m keeping things as they are for now. Of course, I check how she’s feeling right before the date. I’m careful not to overdo things or spread the virus. I’m also taking good care of my health so I don’t let the virus get the better of me. Don’t get too tired, don’t push yourself too hard… that’s the idea(笑) The other day, I couldn’t make much time, so we just had a quick cup of tea. Three—she asked for it, so it hurt, but there was nothing I could do. I always thought there was absolutely no way someone would ask for more than one for just dinner or tea, but I guess it does happen(笑) Of course, she’s someone I see regularly, and this was our second time.
