“Hobbies”—What kinds of hobbies are common among both men and women?

I’m a lost and confused man in my 60s. I have a lot of hobbies, so I’m drawn to women with more niche interests. When I’m considering whom to approach, I immediately rule out any woman who lists golf as an interest. It somehow feels like she’s just trying to appeal to men, and that’s not really my thing…

Maezawa from the Corporate Planning Office here as well. I get the impression that a lot of people struggle when they’re asked about their hobbies. In those cases, some people write down things they like, even if they wouldn’t quite call them hobbies. Even then, many people still can’t think of anything and end up considering various options before forcing themselves to write something down. I also get the impression that some people go with safe choices like reading or watching movies. P.S. Women who list golf as a hobby usually aren’t trying to flatter men—they’re often genuinely good at golf. In fact, most of them don’t initially think to write “golf” at all. During the interview, staff may draw them into a conversation about golf and discover that they have a pretty good score, or that they practice every week even if their score isn’t particularly good. In cases like that, the woman may be advised to mention golf, and that’s how it ends up on her profile. So I think it’s best to ask the staff whether she’s actually good at golf or merely listing it to flatter men.

I’m a male member, BB7. I can only view the women’s profiles, but “watching movies” seems to be by far the most common hobby listed. I also often see things like traveling, shopping, and beauty. As for more unusual interests, I’ve come across castle-hopping, philosophy, rakugo, fishing, and horse racing. I think it’s better not to write “Nothing in particular.” It makes me assume there won’t be much to talk about, and I lose the desire to make an offer...

I’m Meg, one of the female members. It’s actually pretty fun reading the men’s public profiles, isn’t it?♪ There are quite a lot of men whose hobbies include watching movies and opera! (Why???) And then there’s golf, cars, motorcycles, and so on. Oh, and some people even wrote things like, “Thank you for including Hana’s and my pen names in the comments!” (No, thank you! Are you Q&A-box devotees?) I followed the staff’s recommended format and gave serious answers about my qualifications, skills, and hobbies, so I’d be terribly embarrassed to post them here… P.S. Dear Jam, It’s nice when you have hobbies in common, isn’t it? (*^^*) I’m currently studying how to keep a conversation going with men whose hobby is golf. The other day, when someone mentioned a longest-drive prize, I thought, “Huh? A dragon prize? (Of course, I pictured an actual dragon in my head.) What’s that?” and hurriedly looked it up. (汗)
