Can women register even if they’re married?

Maezawa from the Planning Department here as well. Married people can register too. During the interview, we’re only supposed to ask about your marital history. However, if you indicate that you’ve been married before, our staff may inadvertently ask when that was, which can lead to questions about whether you’re currently married. Of course, being asked about this doesn’t mean you’ll be unable to register. Registration eligibility is determined based on other factors. Please feel free to come in for your interview.

In my case, they asked me all sorts of detailed questions—even though I’m married, they wanted to know whether I was in the middle of divorce proceedings, how many children I have, and so on. I suppose they wanted to eliminate any potential concerns during the screening process. Inside, I was thinking, “Are you really going to ask me that much?!” But I handled it maturely and answered honestly without letting my discomfort show. Making a good first impression on the staff is important.
