People are all different, so I don’t think it’s particularly strange.
I imagine the problem is that once things progress into an adult relationship (intimate), the other person may take it for granted or expect it.
If you explain that beforehand, things will usually be fine.
That said, you should make it clear that it’s not okay even if you were lovers, or there’s a good chance they’ll misunderstand.
