Maezawa from the Corporate Planning Office here—I’ll answer as well. I don’t think there’s really a good way to dodge the question. So I’d probably just be direct and say something like: “I’d prefer to wait until we get to know each other better,” or “I consider meeting people here separate from my usual life, so I use a club name here.” Changing the subject, though: even if you formed a legal team and fought the university, universities have academic autonomy, right?

This is Mack, the columnist. When I see that Papuwa’s exhibitionist urges have reached this point, I have to desperately restrain myself from taking off my clothes alongside her and writing my company name and real name right here(^^; I mean, since we’ve already shown each other our private parts, what’s the harm in telling her my name too? That’s how I feel, anyway—but I suppose people see things differently. On a slightly more serious note, prostitution means having sex with an unspecified person in exchange for compensation. That’s how it’s defined in Article 2 of the Anti-Prostitution Law. If you don’t tell the other person your name, they’re technically “unspecified,” which means it counts as prostitution. Make a note of that—I’ll put it on the exam(笑). If Papuwa showed the man her university student ID and received his business card, then they’ve identified each other. So even if money changes hands, it isn’t prostitution. So, Papuwa, if the university ever calls you in, hold your head high and say, “Every time, I show the gentleman my university ID and receive his business card, so it isn’t prostitution!” If things get contentious, I’ll fund your defense team—let’s take the university on all the way. How about “A Study of the Illegality of papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan)” as your graduation thesis topic?

I’m date◎yume, a male member. In my case, we both know each other’s real names, but we still call each other by our club names. Since we met through the club, wouldn’t it be fine to simply say, “Let’s keep using our club names from now on”? If they keep asking and you want to keep your real name private, I think it’s perfectly fine to say, “I’d rather not share my real name just yet.”
