Is there a way to get the man to bring up the allowance smoothly before going to the hotel or before intimacy? Many men seem to dislike women bringing it up, so I have a hard time discussing it. I know playing the game is probably important too, but I still feel like it shouldn’t be the woman who says it…

I’m だて◎ゆめ, a male member. In my case, I usually state my terms first, but aside from that, I understand how you feel. It’s a tricky situation. If you want to know in advance, I think it’s perfectly fine to ask. On the other hand, if you’d rather see how things turn out, leaving it up to the other person is also an option. Male members are generally aware of the situation, so I think most will respond appropriately… That said, statistically speaking, there will always be some outliers, so please be prepared for that.

I’m Saito, a columnist♪ It would be nice if they asked the way Mr. Maezawa does. I’ve never brought it up myself; they’ve always told me the amount before anything happens. I feel more comfortable dating when both the woman and I know the amount in advance.

Maezawa from the Corporate Planning Office here as well. Before heading to the hotel, you probably already have a sense of where things are going. At that point, it may be a good idea to ask something like: “My expectation is 70,000 yen. Is that okay?” The man will likely give you some kind of response. If you feel that the woman shouldn’t be the one to bring it up, then stick to your principles. However, since there’s no guarantee you’ll receive the amount you’re hoping for, my recommendation is to discuss it properly before going.

In my 30s, and a new member. One reason some male members don’t proactively bring up the allowance may be that they feel awkward either way: offering more than the woman is asking feels like a loss, while offering less can make things uncomfortable. Another possibility is that being too overt about “buying” someone with money turns them off. I’m a bit of a nervous show-off, so regardless of the amount, I initially agree to whatever the woman asks and then decide whether to continue based on the balance between our compatibility and the allowance. But I’m sure male members come in all types. Likewise, I imagine women vary too: some want the man to name the amount, some prefer to make the offer themselves, and others dislike anything that feels too money-focused. I think that delicate atmosphere during these negotiations is also part of being in a dating club.
