If you’re not getting a reply, stop messaging for now and try again after a month or so. If there’s still no response, try once more another month later. It’s also possible that, after about six months, you might get a message saying, “Sorry, I was too busy to reply. Would you like to meet again sometime?” It’s not good to chase someone too much, so I recommend looking for someone new at the same time. Sometimes they’ll get back in touch just as things are starting to go well with someone else. If that happens, I think it’s fine to continue seeing both of them.

Column writer Saito here ♪ I think repeating this would be painful, and in general, people are more likely to reply quickly to someone they’re genuinely interested in. You’d probably be better off putting that effort toward someone else. On another note, I used to get random LINE messages from hostesses in Ginza, but when I told them, “I’ll go when I feel like going, but I don’t go just because you messaged me,” they stopped contacting me. I think it’s better to avoid wasting your time.
