I’m only available during the day. Compared with dinner, is it harder for a lunch date to develop into something more afterward? I feel women may also be reluctant to enter a love hotel while it’s still light out.

I’m Saito, a columnist♪ I’m strictly a daytime person. Since I don’t use love hotels, we just have a meal at the hotel restaurant or order room service, so we can part ways within three hours. I think both men and women see their time as something they’re paid for. It’s good value for money, too.

I’m Rura, a male member of UC and a member of the new salon. As some of the other respondents have mentioned, in my experience, daytime dates actually lead to a relationship more smoothly than evening dates. I do go on evening dates too, but if either works, I suggest meeting during the day. The women I meet seem to like it as well. Here’s a brief summary. ☆ The advantages of daytime dates 1. Lunch is often considerably cheaper than dinner, even at an upscale hotel. It’s easier on the wallet. 2. Related to the first point, lunch courses also tend to be somewhat lighter, so they’re easier on the stomach. 3. I don’t usually drink heavily during the day, which works well for me since I’m not a strong drinker. 4. With an evening date, if you use a city hotel, you generally have to book an overnight stay, which feels wasteful. With a day-use plan, you can use a nice city hotel for around ¥8,000–¥10,000. 5. You don’t have to worry about the last train. At dinner, the meal may take longer than expected because the food arrives slowly or the drinks start flowing. If you have to keep an eye on the last train, that can make your time at the hotel feel rushed. Daytime dates are better in that regard. 6. For example, if I’ve made too many new offers or impulsively bought things I wanted and my “dating budget” is tight that month, I might suggest meeting for a meal only, with no intimacy. Saying, “I’m short on money…” would obviously be uncool, so instead I might suggest, “Let’s skip the intimacy today and go to a movie,” or “Let’s visit a museum.” I feel women tend to respond well, thinking, “This person isn’t pushy♡” If you’re going on a date that doesn’t involve intimacy, daytime is also better because more places are open, making it easier to plan a date.

I’m Date◎Yume, a male member. > I’m only available during the daytime. Compared with dinner, is it harder for a lunch date to develop into something more afterward? As Seattle-san mentioned, I think many members aren’t regular office workers. I don’t think meeting during the day is a problem at all. > I imagine women may also feel uncomfortable going to a love hotel while it’s still light out. In my case, regardless of the relationship type, I generally stick to dinner only (no intimacy) when meeting someone for the first time. When I make an offer, I comment, “Dinner only.” But when accepting an offer, it might also be a good idea to say, “I’m not comfortable going to a love hotel during the daytime—is that okay?” If the offer is withdrawn because of that, then I suppose it simply wasn’t meant to be. Day-use hotels are another option, but what matters is whether the relationship can develop afterward. I don’t think every male member wants to take things further during daylight hours on that very day.

Maezawa from the President’s Office here, answering as well. I’ve rarely heard women say they dislike daytime meetings simply because they’re during the day. If anything, many women sign up hoping to meet wealthy men they normally wouldn’t have the chance to meet, so some do dislike love hotels. During the day, you can use a city hotel for daytime use, which may actually be an advantage even with women who feel that way. At night, you’ll be charged the overnight rate even if you don’t stay. Meeting at a city hotel, having a meal there, and then using a room for daytime use afterward seems like a smooth and convenient arrangement. So, regarding: > Is it harder for a lunch date than a dinner date to develop into an ongoing relationship afterward? I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. In fact, I think there are many advantages to meeting for lunch.

I’m a male member based in Seattle. A lot of male members aren’t office workers, so they may be able to make time during the day. Among the women I know, none of them particularly mind going to a love hotel during the day. They’re less crowded then, too.
