Maezawa from the President’s Office here.
There aren’t any specific rules, but usually, when a typhoon is approaching, the man will consider the woman’s safety and reschedule the date.
If the man doesn’t contact us, a staff member may reach out and ask something like, “How would you like to proceed?”
So, although it may be at the last minute, the date will generally be rescheduled by the day before.
The difficult part is that women may feel unable to ask for a change themselves. Even so, if you ask something like, “It looks like public transportation may be suspended. Are we still going ahead with the date?” we can check with the man for you.
In a situation like this, I don’t think it would be possible to go on the date in the first place, so once we know it can’t happen, we’ll contact both parties.
The issue is when a typhoon is approaching but the date still seems possible if you push through. In that case, a considerate man will usually be the one to suggest rescheduling.
