What do women in their 20s who are unemployed and make a living solely through papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) usually do once they reach their 30s?

Women who can land a generous (well-paying) papa (a male supporter) in their 20s will probably be able to keep finding generous supporters—not just into their 30s, but for life. It’d be great if they could save around ¥200 million.

I wrote that if you can’t work a regular job, you should keep doing papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) even after turning 30, value even the lower-paying papas, meet lots of papas, and look for people to meet not only through clubs but also on social media and other platforms. But if you’re still in your twenties, try working at least a little, finding hobbies and friends, and enjoying your life. The fact that you’re already thinking about being unemployed and doing papa-katsu at 30 is just sad. That’s all.

It really depends on the person. Some already have dreams, don’t get swept up in it, save their money, and start a business. If they’re naturally charming and popular, they may keep doing it forever—living off what they’re given and even having a snack bar bought for them, haha. Others become consumed by money, fall into a reckless lifestyle, and end up working in the adult industry in the provinces. Some simply get married and start a family. It’s not as though every woman involved in papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) ends up worse off. People take all kinds of paths. I don’t make my living from papa-katsu, but I know of two women who graduated from Fuu and later got married. One even sent me a photo after having a baby. They may be more ordinary than you’d think.

You set your sights too high for a marriage partner, can’t find anyone, and gradually get older. Even after turning 30, you still can’t lower your standards and end up staying single forever. A classic Minato Ward girl stereotype. Anyway, I guess I’ll go get yakiniku with my ace.

If you made ¥2 million a month, that would be ¥24 million a year and ¥240 million over 10 years… Even if you didn’t go that far, once you passed the ¥100 million mark around your fifth year, you could invest the money or start a business—like a nail salon, for example—and then live comfortably afterward, perhaps running a modest shop that doesn’t make huge profits but brings in enough to get by. Or you might marry a wealthy man and end up living surprisingly well. Quite a few papa-katsu women want to marry wealthy men. Of course, the other person would have to feel the same way, so I imagine most see it as more of a “if possible” kind of hope. And women who already dislike men their own age because they seem too immature, and prefer dating older men, may naturally end up in that sort of relationship.

If you seriously want to make papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) your sole source of income, you should invest and become a millionaire by the time you’re in your 30s. If you’re not capable of that, you’d be better off holding down a proper day job. But even if you become a millionaire in your 30s and spend every day on vacation without working, would that really be enjoyable? I’m still a workaholic in my 50s, so I just can’t relate.
