> Is that acceptable even at a dating club?
Of course not. Absolutely not. So not acceptable that it’s practically a “no” carved in stone.
- Even on dinner dates after the second or third meeting, you should obviously give her the dinner-date allowance every time.
- The adult-relationship allowance goes without saying—hand it over, no questions asked. You could even give her a cracker along with the cash allowance. And give it to her beforehand, not afterward.
- A true gentleman papa at Universe Club gives cash instead of presents. An app papa gives presents instead of cash.
That’s all.

What’s the difference between a dating club and an app?
At a club, both members have their identities verified and their IDs on file, so it’s harder for people to do anything shady.
Officially, the club’s responsibility ends after making the initial introduction, and anything after that is generally at your own risk.
However, if you report to the club that a man gave you a fake handbag instead of your allowance, the club can expel him, prevent him from receiving any more offers, or verify the facts and warn him.
That said, the woman also bears some responsibility if she couldn’t bring herself to clearly ask for the allowance in cash in the first place.
There are plenty of people in the world who think it’s fine to deceive others as long as they benefit—and even get a thrill from profiting through deception.
Being wealthy doesn’t necessarily mean someone is a good person. There are also many people who make money by operating on the very edge of the law, or even beyond it through connections, in ways that come close to deception.
If you’re going to do papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) in such an environment, you need at least some preparation and resolve. You need to think things through for yourself, speak up, and say no when you should, so you don’t get taken advantage of.
With an app, you’re completely on your own. With a dating club, the club can be on your side, so it’s at least somewhat better...

Wouldn’t it solve the problem to simply ask for a bag instead of an allowance?

Where in this Q&A box did it say that was acceptable? That’s not okay, regardless of whether it’s Universe Club or not.
It’s unfortunate that your friend was so careless, too.
The answer is very simple: just turn down anyone who offers gifts instead of an allowance, regardless of whether they’re being truthful.

From the second meeting onward, things are up to you both. So, as long as you’re mutually comfortable and agree, you could say anything goes.
That said, as a matter of common sense, the allowance (cash) is generally a given. Adding gifts on top of the allowance is perfectly normal too. I used to give gifts quite often.
Not receiving an allowance would actually make me uneasy. After all, this is basically a relationship built around an allowance. Otherwise, the boundaries between us might become unclear.
Also, I always give the allowance before the woman leaves. Giving it upfront feels too much like a commercial service. These days, I tell them in advance that I’ll give them the allowance when they’re leaving, so they feel reassured.
Of course, if they ask to receive it upfront, I’ll give it to them—but I usually don’t see them again. In most cases, it turns out we’re not very compatible in bed. It’s kind of strange.
