Can the person you marry or date really affect whether your luck improves or takes a turn for the worse?

I believe they do. At least, I’ve always felt that I’m someone whose luck improves through the people around me. That said, rather than their literally making your luck rise or fall, I think it’s more about how being around them changes your own state of mind. There are people who make you feel more positive, encourage you to keep trying a little harder, or help you stop treating yourself carelessly. When you’re involved with someone like that, your actions naturally change, and as a result, your work, relationships, and even the flow of money often start improving too. On the other hand, when you’re with someone who makes you overly self-conscious every time you meet, chips away at your self-esteem, or leaves you constantly exhausted, things can strangely start going wrong. So rather than saying that “the other person possesses good or bad luck,” I think what matters more is whether being with them raises or lowers your energy, judgment, and the quality of your actions. If you take it to its logical conclusion, what we call luck may ultimately be a reflection of our own mindset and way of being. Still, I do believe that the people closest to us—our partners and dating partners—can have a major influence on that mindset. Someone who makes you like yourself a little more when you’re with them. I believe that alone is enough to turn your luck around.

Being around lucky people makes me feel like my own luck might improve too. Does being around negative people bring your luck down? It’s not fun to begin with. I’d like to date someone cheerful and positive.

Not at all. I believe luck is entirely determined by the choices you make.

I’ve never relied on anything as abstract as “luck,” so I wouldn’t know. In hindsight, someone might be said to bring good or bad fortune to their partner, but I think that’s a disrespectful way to talk about women.
