As Aya said, many people lie about being university students or claim they’re working hard because they’re going to become lawyers.
Besides, even among people who attend university, there are plenty who are only good at studying but lack common sense and can’t handle anything else.
Rather than taking everything at face value, why not judge the situation based on your own values?

Could she be lying about which university she attends? Is she even really a college student?
Even though the college enrollment rate has surpassed 50%, half of women in their 20s still attended junior college or only finished high school, and students at the so-called highly selective universities are a tiny minority, right?
So it seems really strange that you keep running into women who do papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) and also have such a lax attitude toward money...

You don’t seem to realize that university entrance exams measure the academic ability needed to pass them—not raw intelligence or worldly wisdom. I have to admit, I was surprised.
Also, depending on the department, my impression of graduates from that university is that they’re lovable fools.
The first thing that surprised me when I started answering questions was that even men who earn enough to be a papa (a male supporter) aren’t necessarily as smart as you might expect.
It reaffirmed my impression that intelligence and income aren’t all that closely related.
