Have you ever regretted doing papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan)? My friend’s older sister’s fiancé found out she had been doing it, and the engagement was called off. 😢

It’s certainly a possibility. I don’t know what the current situation is regarding engagements, but when I was younger, it wasn’t particularly unusual for people to conduct—or have conducted—background checks. I imagine some people still commission thorough investigations today. If your fiancé or their parents hire a private investigator, it would be difficult to keep this hidden, depending on the investigation fee and how often you engage in papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan). Don’t underestimate the professionals. They may uncover details that make you think, “Wait, is that really okay?”—though of course, it depends on the agency’s capabilities and how much they’re paid. This may be beside the point of your question, but you should probably continue on the assumption that you’ll be found out. If you’re engaged and they hire an investigator, keeping it hidden would be extremely difficult.

Of course I don’t do that, and I’m in these relationships with the mindset that I won’t leave the women regretting it either. P.S. The person asking the question wrote “😭” and things like that, but I wonder if that woman regrets it? If she does, then I guess she wasn’t prepared to accept the consequences. There are risks like STDs, taxes, and getting involved with married men, but if you chose to do papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) anyway, I feel like you shouldn’t regret whatever happens.

Is that really true? Even if they’re friends, would she really talk about her sister like that? It sounds made up, so I think it’s bait. But to answer seriously, I have zero regrets. If I hadn’t started papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), I might’ve ended up dead in more ways than one by now—or at the very least, I’d be constantly plagued by anxiety about the future. I’m glad I met my papa (a male supporter).

No, there isn’t. As for that woman, I think it’s actually fortunate that the issue came to light before they got married. It would have been much more complicated after registering the marriage, and she was lucky not to marry a narrow-minded man who would call off the wedding simply because his partner had engaged in compensated dating in the past. I think everyone has a few dark secrets in their past.
