Not everyone is like that.
Personally, I don’t want to be disliked, so I try to be careful.
If you don’t exercise regularly, the sweat you work up occasionally can smell, so I exercise regularly and spray on antiperspirant/deodorant, like AG, before going on a date.
Also, this applies to women sometimes too, but I feel like the smell can linger if you don’t wash your lower body thoroughly with soap every day. So I make sure to wash carefully every day without missing any spots.

I take a bath right before the date.
I apply deodorant just before meeting them.
I use body wipes quite a lot.
I’m constantly sucking on something. A tongue brush and interdental brush are important too.

I don’t do anything in particular. But I always smell my own farts and poop, so maybe I’m just sensitive to smells. If something smells bad, I investigate the cause and deal with it. About 87% of the time, it’s the smell of belly-button lint. I firmly believe that smell is the strongest odor humans can produce.
Women can be smelly sometimes too, but I feel it’s more often an issue with how they wash than with their natural body chemistry. So if your partner smells, get in the bath with her and scrub her thoroughly while pretending it’s caressing. At adult entertainment venues, they’ll wash the penis and pull back the foreskin as far as it goes. Also, be careful around the armpits, lower body, and anywhere with hair. You can’t exactly wash someone’s head, but the area behind the ears and around the hairline at the back of the head should be scrubbed properly.
Also, if there’s a bathtub, it’s better to fill it and soak for a while. Even if there are areas deep in the folds or places your fingers couldn’t reach, soaking in the water will wash away a fair amount of grime.
If it still smells after all that, it’s probably something that keeps coming back, so give up and get used to it. Honestly, isn’t becoming close with another living being basically about exchanging smells and bacteria? I’ve heard that people who live together share around 50% of their gut bacteria. In the end, just accept that’s how things are and make peace with it.(笑)

Every morning before I leave, I kiss and hug my wife, which also lets me check for any odor based on her stern expression and merciless comments.
Also, since even breaking a sweat for a moment makes it impossible to hide anything, I make sure to use several body wipes.
My wife washes my underwear and clothes with scented detergent, so I’m often told that I smell nice.
I also make a point of showering before dates, so even when I’m busy, I stop by a super sento along the way, even if only briefly.
To avoid making my pre-date showers look suspicious, I also shower before going out on days when I normally wouldn’t need to.

I can’t say every single one of them does, but I’ve never met a considerate person—or any of the experienced people around me who have mistresses—who smelled bad.
If anything, most of them have a pleasant scent that suits them personally.
I’ve been conscious of how I smell since my twenties, and now that I’m in my thirties, I pay even more attention to it.
That said, some people simply don’t care about things like this, so I suppose it can’t be helped. But I feel like those people tend to lack consideration in other ways too.
Come to think of it, if Universe rejected people during interviews for failing a smell check, there might be fewer oddballs around.
