If you’re among the top 10 or so prettiest girls in your class and have a good figure—roughly weighing your height in centimeters minus 110—or even if you weigh more but have strengths like a larger bust or a defined waist, you may still do well. And if your face appeals to the papa generation, you might be supported by them even without makeup, especially if you have a youthful look. Why not come in for an interview? There are also women who aren’t overwhelmingly beautiful but have a certain natural, broadly appealing charm and receive lots of offers. Come in for an interview, and if the club staff tell you that you really need makeup, you can simply start wearing it. If you need to learn how to apply makeup, YouTube is a free way to pick up the knowledge and skills these days, so give it a try.

If you’re interviewed by a female staff member, I feel like your chances of being rejected are higher. Women tend to be stricter with other women. If you can do something yourself but the other person can’t, they may deduct a lot of points for it. Male staff members tend to judge from a man’s perspective, so they often don’t worry about those little details. If they think you’re a pleasant-looking woman with a good vibe, you can get accepted even without makeup. Whether you wear makeup generally isn’t a specific criterion. It’s less about whether you’re wearing makeup and more about whether you look good at first glance. In that sense, I sometimes see women specifically requesting to be interviewed by female staff, but I wonder why they make that request when they’re likely to be judged more harshly and rejected. Since your date will be a man, I think it’s clearer and better to be interviewed by a man. The way women look at women and the way men look at women seem to be quite different. The easiest example might be collarbones. Men almost never say that a woman has beautiful collarbones—I doubt most men even look at collarbones specifically in the first place. But I’ve heard women say things like, “Her collarbones are so beautiful… amazing,” many times. I imagine there are probably other differences in the standards used from a male versus female perspective. Also, if a woman is really good at makeup, I feel like she could easily make herself look a whole level more attractive. If you’re young, I think you can do perfectly fine without makeup, but learning how to apply makeup probably wouldn’t hurt.

If you look reasonably presentable, you’ll probably be accepted, but I’ve never met anyone who showed up completely makeup-free. If you think going bare-faced won’t work, you could have someone at a cosmetics store help you choose products, or ask a friend to teach you. A new female employee at our company recently complained that a senior colleague scolded her and told her to at least wear makeup to work, so apparently even office staff are expected to wear makeup.
