I feel like it’s all over. I was rejected at the application-screening stage for a contest I made it as far as the camera test in a few years ago.
I’m almost 30 now. A host I met in Shinjuku told me, “You’re too old to make it in show business now. You should just get married.”
He told me to face reality and start looking for a husband, but I never thought I’d be rejected on the application alone.
I guess I can’t compete on looks anymore.
Is being almost 30 really that bad? *Sobs*
Do people really prefer girls that young?
In idol work, gravure modeling, and fashion modeling, youth is definitely an advantage. But even when you were younger, if you only got through auditions because of the camera, then unfortunately, you simply didn’t have enough natural potential to begin with.
Now that you’re older and no longer have youth on your side, that advantage is gone as well.
In industries aimed at men, the male instinct to pass on their genes leads them to choose women who are young and healthy.

It’s unfortunate that I don’t have anything to offer besides my looks.
There are plenty of people with similar looks in the entertainment industry.
In any field, it’s only natural to choose the younger person when their abilities are comparable.

If an idol or model hasn’t made it by 25, they’re probably finished. The host is right.

Just as an athlete retires and starts a second chapter in life,
turning 30 marks the beginning of a different life from the one you’ve lived before.
For both men and women, people generally only look good in photos up until their early twenties. Once you reach your thirties, real life begins—one shaped by more than just your looks.
If anything, I think life becomes more enjoyable from that point on…
