I Was Suspected of Cheating Because I Have Tonsillitis

My tonsillitis is severe, so I’ve been off work for about a week with symptoms like coughing and a sore throat. This is the first time I’ve ever had it, and a man sent me a link about gonorrhea, saying, “Couldn’t it be an STI?” Apparently it can be transmitted through kissing or sex, but I have no reason to think that applies to me… Still, being suspected really hurt. I’m also starting to worry—what if it actually is an STI? The internal medicine doctor didn’t tell me what caused it, so should I get tested for STIs just to be sure? I’ve told my coworkers that I have tonsillitis, but do they think I have an STI?

People don’t usually assume it’s an STI, so please don’t worry. Is the man who mentioned an STI someone who recently got gonorrhea or chlamydia? I also get tonsillitis from time to time. It can hurt so much that I can’t open my mouth. When that happens, taking an anti-inflammatory usually helps it clear up relatively quickly. Tonsillitis causes a fever and sore throat, so you were prescribed something like Loxonin, right? You should also try using a gargle.

I don’t think your company suddenly suspects you have an STD based on nothing just because you told them you have tonsillitis (lol). If you have no reason to suspect anything, you probably don’t need to get tested—but it might be a good opportunity to do so. They say that worrying can make you feel worse, and simply knowing for sure may give you some peace of mind. I hope you feel better soon…!
