You should be considerate about your relationship with them, as well as how and when you ask.
As Mac mentioned, annual income doesn’t mean much when it comes to business owners.
If someone is showing off about how wealthy they are, I think it’s fine to ask. That said, in my experience, people like that are usually extremely stingy, so there’s a good chance you’ll end up complimenting them for nothing.

Is there really any benefit to asking about his annual income? It’ll probably just make you seem overly focused on money…
And as long as you’re receiving your allowance properly, does it really matter how much he earns? At most, you might feel disappointed thinking, “He earns an incredibly high income, but his allowance is so low,” or think, “His income isn’t that high, but he’s really making an effort with the allowance.”
If you’re seeing each other, you can probably get a general idea of his income from the way he shops and your everyday conversations. So I don’t think it’s something you need to ask him directly.

It’s not just rude—it sounds kind of foolish.
Asking someone about their annual income is something you do in a business setting. If you see the man as a client, then sure, go ahead and ask.
