You can ask about a man’s past issues, but if there was a serious problem, he would have been banned. If it was something minor, we generally don’t share the details directly.
So it may not be all that helpful, but since we do provide hints in a vague way, I think it’s best to try to read between the lines.
Also, if you inquire by phone, you can ask further questions about anything ambiguous. This gives you more clues, and sometimes you can get a sense of what kind of issue occurred. That’s why I actually recommend calling.
(It does create more work for the staff, though.)
For example, suppose we say that a man is “very proactive about pursuing a relationship after dinner.” It may be hard to tell what the past issue was, but regardless of whether his dating type is B or A, there may have been at least two complaints saying that he persistently pressured them about an adult relationship during dinner, wouldn’t back off no matter how many times they declined, and talked about little else, making it impossible for them to enjoy the meal.
