Try both and see which one suits you better—and which one you can actually earn more from. You can’t determine that through speculation alone, so I’d suggest giving them both a try first.

Working as a hostess or at a lounge has the advantage of giving you a predictable income, since you earn an hourly wage whenever you’re on shift.
However, unless the establishment considers you valuable, you may not be able to get shifts at all—and then you won’t earn a single yen.
papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) is the same: if you don’t have dates with a papa (a male supporter), you won’t earn anything.
You can always try it first and decide afterward whether it suits you.

Among the women I know, hostesses and girls who work at lounges tend to earn more. Their hourly pay can also be higher. The ones who earn the most are those who have a papa (a male supporter) while working there.

If it suits you, papa-katsu is an easy way to earn. That said, some people can still make good money even if it stresses them out…

Finding something that suits you is what matters most.
I’m not trying to discriminate between hostesses and women who work through dating clubs, but personally, I couldn’t handle being in a hostess bar. It’s not a place I’d ever choose to go to myself. It’s not just the cigarettes, alcohol, and noise—I find it unbearable to see or be in a space where power harassment and sexual harassment are apparently accepted as customer service or hospitality. (Or maybe I’m just secretly more perverted than I realize…??)
In other words, some people of any gender find that kind of environment comfortable, while for others, it’s the complete opposite—a painful place to be.
