He may simply be busy with work, but as you suspect, he probably has another favorite and less time to spare.
People rarely come right out and say they’re lowering your allowance. Take it as a sign that he may be about to cut ties, and start looking for someone else.

Maybe you were actually being treated with care.
I have a monthly arrangement with a woman I give a six-figure allowance to, but to reduce the burden on her, I’ve gradually cut back on how often we meet. As for our adult relationship (intimate), it’s been over six months since the last time.
She’s truly important to me, so I have no intention of reducing her allowance or ending things.
We’ve become very close, and if she has more time and wants to, we might start meeting once a week again. Or maybe I’m simply being taken for a ride, haha.
