Is papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) not really suitable if you just want someone to have dinner with during a one-off business trip?

Using it just once probably isn’t very cost-effective. That said, if you’re okay with that, go ahead. By the way, from the woman’s perspective, I don’t think many women are looking for that kind of man.

This is just my personal opinion, but if someone is willing to fly in from far away and asks, “Could you make time for even just a meal?” I’d want to treat them as someone special, and I’d make sure not to schedule anything else. That said, I’m talking about people who aren’t looking for a one-off meeting, but travel frequently for work and hope to see me regularly going forward—starting with a first meeting over dinner. I also want to build a long-term, meaningful relationship, so it may be difficult for me to accommodate someone who’s only looking to fill a gap in their schedule. If you’re looking for a one-time meeting, like “Today, from what time?” an app might actually be a better place to find someone. —Akari

I think one-off arrangements are far too poor value for money.

I think you’ll be fine♪ A lot of people come to Kyoto for sightseeing or business trips. Since they make the trip all the way from the city, it’s fun hearing all kinds of stories from them.

It seems possible with either a B-type or an A-type. If he likes you, inviting you again would probably turn it into an ongoing arrangement rather than a one-off. More importantly, wouldn’t it be better for him to take you somewhere, or for you to go together…

If women with dating type D are willing to meet you, then I suppose it should be fine. That said, I have to admit, the questioner is pretty remarkable for being willing to pay ¥50,000 in setting fees + ¥10,000 for the woman’s transportation + ¥30,000 for dinner for two + a ¥70,000 allowance for the woman—for a total of ¥160,000. It’s not the amount itself that’s remarkable, but the fact that they want to do this every time.

For a one-off, a paid drinking app seems easier and more convenient. If you’re looking for something ongoing, though, this is probably the place... By the way, before COVID, Fuu had women in Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka. Adult relationships were also an option. Personally, if it’s just conversation, I find hostesses more enjoyable... COVID made it difficult to get around, so I’ve barely managed to stay in touch with women in Sapporo and Fukuoka. As I’ve written in my column, women from regional areas are great. They’re right up my alley!

It depends on the location, but I think paid social gatherings or apps might be better. I haven’t done it much myself, but I have taken someone I was seeing along on a business trip as a little getaway, and I feel that might work better for both of you.

Some women may be disappointed if, despite receiving an offer, it ends after just one dinner. If you let them know from the beginning when making the offer, they can come fully aware of the situation, which will make things more comfortable for both of you.

I do feel happier when someone comes regularly. Even so, if it’s only dinner—even as a one-off—it still feels relatively decent to me. Marika

I think it’s worth considering if you can arrange plans about a week in advance. The quality of the women tends to be lower, but if I were you, I’d look on an app rather than through Universe. In fact, that’s what I actually did. If I were going somewhere without a Universe branch next time, I’d probably use an app again.
