I’m going to meet my papa’s wife soon. It doesn’t seem like she plans to sue me for adultery—instead, she suggested we go shopping or something. Is there anything I should be careful about or keep in mind? The fact that she’s seven years younger than me might make things a little awkward.

That sounds terrifying. It’s probably best to fill your schedule completely that day so you don’t have to meet him. All I can imagine is a total nightmare.

If it were me, I simply wouldn’t meet him… No matter how well you think things went, you can’t know how the other person really felt. Just because they were smiling doesn’t mean you’re in the clear, and if their feelings change, there’s always a risk they could take legal action. It’s safest to leave it alone.

In cases like that, women seem to recognize each other right away. They can just tell… especially if they’re lovers or mistresses. Later, they might say, “Don’t see her anymore,” or delete your contact information and LINE… And then the woman says things like, “Your wife has a big chest”… This was also based on an actual face-to-face encounter. She said she wanted to come celebrate ◯◯… She deleted me, but even after that…

Personally, I’d politely—very politely—decline and not meet her… If I absolutely had to meet, I’d make it the three of us, with the papa there too. I’ve heard that Ginza hostesses in the past sometimes socialized with their clients’ wives as well, but I think that was because they were professionals who knew how to conduct themselves as “people from the establishment.” papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) is, after all, an amateur arrangement, so unless someone is exceptionally good at handling situations, I get the impression that maintaining a relationship with the wife would be difficult. I can’t stop wondering how this whole meeting came about—that’s just my nosy curiosity talking, haha.

I can’t see any reason for you to meet. What exactly is your reason for wanting to meet? How can you be so certain that it isn’t to confront or sue him? You might say you only planned to go shopping, but after meeting him, you could end up feeling conflicted and deciding to take legal action after all. No matter how dysfunctional the marriage is, I don’t think anyone would be happy to learn that their husband is seeing someone else. Well, unless they’re happy about the prospect of receiving a substantial amount in damages. If you still want to meet after giving it more thought, I think you should do so fully prepared for the consequences.
