Maybe it’s because I’m not very bright, but I couldn’t really understand Flagmaker’s comment, “In papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), everyone is in combat mode. It’s pretty difficult to get a girl wearing armor to let her guard down.” I feel that when it comes to papa-katsu, money can get you past a woman’s armor to some extent. If anything, I feel it would be much harder to have fun on your own—if by that they mean dealing with an amateur without money being involved.

I can’t manage it on my own in the first place, so something like that is more than enough for me. I guess that’s what people mean by keeping a comfortable distance.
Also, if things got too serious, I have my own complications, so I’d want to keep a clear boundary there. I don’t think that’s quite the same as not valuing someone or just playing around with money, though.

In papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), since money is involved, you’re more likely to attract women who are motivated by money. And even if she does come to like you, there’s always that thin barrier of the relationship being based on money, quietly keeping the two of you apart. I guess that’s just the nature of papa-katsu.
