As for women’s rankings, they’re decided by the staff member who conducts the interview, so there can be some variation.
It’s somewhat like how judges are expected to issue rulings without instructions or supervision from anyone, following only their conscience and the law.
Basically, if the staff member feels a certain rank is the best fit, that’s the rank assigned.
Occasionally, a supervisor may feel that a different rank would be more appropriate. Even then, they first ask the interviewer about the circumstances and discuss what the woman’s rank should be.
(That said, if the supervisor says so, the interviewer will usually agree unless there’s a very good reason not to. [笑])
So, in that sense, you could call it somewhat subjective. But each staff member does have their own criteria, so I think you gradually start to understand things like, “This staff member places particular importance on this.”
There’s also a certain enjoyment in discovering those nuances, so that may be part of the fun as well.
Ideally, the criteria should be standardized as much as possible. But perhaps Universe became as successful as it did precisely because we didn’t standardize everything.
I wonder which approach is really better.
