Why does semen have a distinctive smell? Can you tell if someone has a disease based on whether it smells?

I’m Ayase Nana☆ If an STI causes pus, I imagine it would smell pretty strange ( ̄▽ ̄;) I’ve never been with someone who had an illness like that, so I wouldn’t know. But at the hospital, I found myself looking at them and thinking, “Ah, so they’re the type who has unprotected sex with anyone.” I’m sorry.

Maezawa from the CEO’s office here, answering as well. > Can you tell whether someone has a disease based on whether there’s an odor? There have been articles, for example, about detecting cancer through the smell of urine: “Detection dogs can identify early-stage cancer with nearly 100% accuracy. All you have to do is submit a urine sample.” “It is possible to identify early-stage pancreatic cancer using nematodes’ sense of smell.” So in the future, it may become possible to determine certain things from the smell of semen as well, though it might be difficult to do so with the human sense of smell.

I’m Kazu, a male member. The smell of semen comes from an amine called spermine. As the name suggests, this amine was discovered in semen, and apparently it helps stabilize the structure of DNA. Apparently, food and drinks can change the taste and smell of semen. I wonder if illness can change it too. I’ve never heard of that, though. Oh, I’ve heard that blood can sometimes mix with semen due to an illness, but even then, there can be several different causes.
