I’ve previously answered a question about the differences between papa-katsu and the adult entertainment industry.
There are many ways papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) differs from the adult entertainment industry.
Adult entertainment: You receive payment for providing sexual services.
The other person is usually someone unspecified, and the relationship is often short-term.
Papa-katsu: Two people who are mutually comfortable with each other discuss and decide how they want to date, including whether or not to have an adult relationship (intimate). The allowance is also mutually agreed upon.
The major difference is that papa-katsu involves dating one another as people, rather than simply having a one-time physical relationship.
I’m not criticizing the adult entertainment industry. It serves a necessary purpose in society. I only wanted to explain the difference between working in that industry and papa-katsu (dating clubs).
You can replace “adult entertainment” with “soapland” if that makes it easier to understand.

What kind of vague question is this?
If all you’re looking at is the fact that money is paid in exchange for sex, then even ordinary couples give each other birthday and Christmas presents. If you consider presents to be similar to money, you could argue that soaplands and romantic partners are the same in that both involve paying for sex—but very few people actually think that way.
I assume you wrote this question because that’s how you see it.
When you lump things together that broadly, they may seem identical. But if you look at the details, you’ll see that they’re different.
Why not consider all the specifics?
If, after thinking it through, you still feel they’re the same, then I suppose it’s fine to see all sex in the world as being the same—that’s simply your way of thinking.
Still, I believe most people generally don’t see it that way.

But if it’s meant as a token of appreciation for spending the day together, that may be different.
If the man is giving it as thanks for the enjoyable time that day, then the woman doesn’t need to send a thank-you message either.

At a soapland, you pay a set bathing fee and service charge, and they provide the promised services. With papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan), the allowance isn’t fixed, and since it’s a relationship, you never know what might happen.
In papa-katsu, paying doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have sex, so I don’t think papa-katsu and soaplands are the same. If you’re paying for sex, that’s a soapland or enjo kōsai (compensated dating for sex). For enjo kōsai, I think dating sites are more suitable.
