“Let’s sell our friends.”

Mamiya from Universe Club here. I was also contacted by a member today. Regarding the “Sell your friends” promotion, the problematic comment was: “If you’re ugly and don’t get any offers, all you can do is sell your friends, right?” I’m truly sorry for making you feel uncomfortable. It wasn’t really what I truly believe—or rather, the comment was going viral, and I jumped on the bandwagon. I don’t think there’s anything I can say to excuse it, so I hope you won’t take my words seriously. I’ve always had a sharp tongue, but I’ll think more carefully before I speak from now on. The other staff members are wonderful, and both Universe and Frein have innovative systems. I should have said that from the start… If you’re willing, please consider registering with Frein.

I’m Maezawa from the CEO’s office, and I’ll answer this one too. I was surprised when I received this email quite a while ago. “What company would write something this strange? Just looking at the opening, it’s obviously spam, so nobody’s going to read it.” But then I realized it was actually an email from Universe Club. Hmm… I assume they thought this approach would get people to read it. And since results are what matter, if it’s working, I suppose that’s fine. Personally, though, I found myself thinking, “Why is spam showing up in my inbox? This email’s spam filter must be pretty lenient.”

I’m Kazu, a male member. Universe Club sometimes comes out with such outrageous, head-scratching catchphrases. I sometimes wonder if they’re deliberately trying to stir up controversy.
