Even men who weren’t particularly impressive in person sometimes have high star ratings. Are men’s ratings based on more than just women’s reviews? Does how much they spend at the club also factor into their rating?

I think the allowance plays a major role in how women rate someone on the club. I’m guessing that as long as the overall arrangement, including the allowance, falls within what they consider acceptable, many women are likely to give a high rating. Looking at the setting data, around 72% of men rate women +1 or higher, while around 77% of women rate men +1 or higher. It’s not as though all the men are handsome older gentlemen, and I’ve heard there are also preachy, lecturing types. So I think those high ratings are largely thanks to the allowance. Judging from the women’s star ratings, I believe the club itself doesn’t get involved in the ratings as much as it used to.

It’s probably like Tabelog and similar sites—people’s ratings differ depending on who they are. I don’t think making lots of offers and spending a lot of money has anything to do with someone’s rating. I once made an offer to a woman with a five-star rating, thought, “Wait, what?” and later saw that her rating had gone back down to three stars. (This was quite a while ago, before profiles became inaccessible after making an offer.) If you rate that man based on your experience and other people also leave negative feedback, his rating might go down. Then again, there may simply be very few people who actually leave feedback…

Other people’s ratings aren’t necessarily reliable, are they? Even when I go to Michelin-starred restaurants, they sometimes leave me disappointed. High ratings on restaurant review sites like Tabelog, or on Google, aren’t reliable at all. The owners probably arrange for acquaintances to post favorable reviews and ratings. When it comes to reviews, I pay more attention to the low ratings. It’s even better if you can find out why they received them. You might want to be concerned about ratings only when choosing someone with low reviews. A club is a for-profit business whose revenue comes from the referral fees charged when a match is made. Everything is structured to make matches as likely as possible. So if someone still has low ratings within that system, making it harder for them to be matched, it may be an unusual situation.

That should be an issue that money can’t solve. I think both men and women generally rate their partners fairly generously. Even when someone isn’t my type, I see that as a matter of personal preference, so I always rate them as at least meeting, if not exceeding, my expectations. Personally, I assume that women with low ratings are simply being downrated out of spite by men they turned down. I’ve never been disappointed by a woman I met because of that. For details on how the system works, see here: https://universe-club.jp/information/64462/ Even if someone doesn’t quite meet your expectations, that still counts as ±0, so I think ratings tend to increase fairly easily.
