I’m thinking about quitting papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan). Is it considered good manners to let the papas I’ve been seeing regularly know?

If you thought those papas were good people, I think you should get in touch with them. If not, I think it’s perfectly fine to just leave things as they are. Letting the relationship naturally fade away is also an option. If you repeatedly say things like, “I’m busy that day…” they’ll probably stop contacting you eventually. What’s best depends on the person, as well as what kind of arrangement feels manageable for you. That said, it’s quite common for things to pick up again after graduation, so I think it would be better to leave the door open for the future.

I’ll have our staff member, Ishibashi, weigh in as well! If you suddenly stop responding, the other person may worry, so I think it’s best to stay in touch with anyone you’re seeing regularly (*^^*)

In your case, I think it’s enough to simply stop contacting him. If there’s anyone you’d still like to see after graduation, you can keep in touch with them.

I’d like her to say it to me, personally. It’s something we agreed on from the beginning of our relationship... These days, I understand that we can still see each other even after ending our adult relationship, so I don’t think every aspect of the relationship necessarily has to end. Still, it feels like a way to mark the transition, you know?(笑)

If you meet them one last time, some people may get a graduation allowance—though not everyone does.

I don’t think there are any hard-and-fast rules of etiquette. Instead of sounding like a guy from the bubble era who can’t figure out what to do on a date without a dating manual, I suggest using your own head a little. I think your brain only gets worse if you don’t use it.
