The papa I’m meeting for the second time invited me to stay the night. I’m fine with staying over, but I’d like to ask for a little more allowance. How should I phrase it so he’ll be willing to increase it?

I’m Fuu, a columnist. As the other respondents have said, why not ask? You could say, “If we stay overnight, how much allowance would you want?” I think you’ll be able to enjoy the overnight stay more comfortably if you bring it up yourself and the asker agrees to the terms. If the amount is too much, your papa will probably tell you he’d rather not stay overnight.

I’m Maezawa from the CEO’s Office, and I’ll answer this too. First of all, if this is only your second time meeting, I don’t think you should stay overnight yet. You could simply ask directly: “How much would the allowance be if we stayed overnight?” Then follow up with something like: “Since we’ve only met once so far, I’d feel more comfortable meeting a few more times before staying overnight.” That may make the man wonder whether the allowance he offered was too low. I also think it’s a good idea to clearly state something like, “I’d prefer to wait until we’ve met five times before staying overnight.” Then, if the topic of staying overnight comes up after your fifth meeting, you can ask again: “How much would the allowance be for an overnight stay?” If the amount is higher than before, he may be a good papa (a male supporter) who is considerate of the woman’s feelings.

I’m Dai, a male member. I think you should just tell him exactly that. If it’s a deal-breaker for him, he’ll probably cancel the overnight stay.

I’m Joe, one of the male members. I’d suggest being honest and straightforward about what you want, without overthinking it. When it comes to overnight stays and trips, I’m embarrassed to say I’ve had my share of trial and error. These days, my approach is to “accept what the woman wants” when staying overnight. I’ve reached the point where I feel that’s the only way to keep things smooth. For example, a certain lady—“the Hakata busty girl”—states her wishes refreshingly clearly. And when I’m willing to go along with them, I give it my all, and our trips are always enjoyable. My only concern is that this is still just your second time meeting. You may be unsure whether your values are compatible. That’s another reason I personally recommend being direct. I hope this develops into a good relationship.

I’m Aya, a female member. I guess the best you can do is phrase it as sweetly as possible: “How much allowance would I receive if we stayed overnight?” It’s difficult, but any man who gets angry over that probably isn’t worth dealing with, so you don’t need to force yourself.

I’m Kazu, a male member. I think the best approach is to ask, “How much allowance are you expecting for an overnight stay?” If she brings it up, most people would take that as a sign that she’s probably expecting more than usual. A man who refuses to offer an allowance himself but gets angry when a woman asks about it is a man to avoid, so I’d expect nothing but trouble ahead.
