How much do you give for transportation expenses?

I’ve said countless times that one-line questions like this should be hidden… Still, since this may be a question about club rules, I’ll answer even though it’s brief. Under the club rules, the allowance called “transportation expenses” for the first date is set at ¥5,000–¥10,000. Women aren’t allowed to ask for more than that. (For dates after the second, they’re free to ask for more.) Because of this, most men give the woman ¥10,000. Some have argued that this makes it impossible to give ¥5,000 to a woman they didn’t like, since they don’t want to hand her ¥10,000. But considering that many men invite women to a hotel after giving them ¥5,000, the idea of giving ¥10,000 if they liked her and ¥5,000 if they didn’t is really just an excuse on the men’s part. It feels more like the men complaining are those who only want to give ¥5,000 to anyone, regardless of who they meet. Anyway, this is only a request from the club, but we ask men to give the ¥5,000–¥10,000 allowance in advance during the meal. So these days, I think almost all men hand it over beforehand. That’s why I get the impression that whether they give ¥5,000 or ¥10,000 depends on the man’s financial situation. From a woman’s perspective, she’ll probably assume that a man who gives ¥5,000 will also offer a lower allowance later on, so I think giving ¥10,000 puts you at an advantage. Taking this idea a step further, some men even give ¥20,000 or ¥30,000 as compensation for dinner only (no intimacy). I think it can be an effective strategy for gaining an advantage.

I’m a male member, and honestly, I’m one of the less successful guys. For women who live far away, I give them enough to cover a Shinkansen Green Car ticket and tell them, “You can use an unreserved seat or take an overnight bus if you prefer.”

I’m in Seattle. I make it clear that it’s included in the allowance, then negotiate from there. So, probably zero. Unless they’re coming from far away. The above applies to the second meeting; for the first meeting, it’s ¥10,000 the moment we meet face-to-face.
