Maezawa here. The male members of Universe are all wonderful and kind, so when someone comes from far away, many of them take that into consideration. In some cases, the staff also ask the man to be considerate when the woman is coming from a long distance. Since you said it was half the usual amount, though, I don’t think the staff made that request this time. That said, there are also wonderful men who offer more even when the woman lives near the meeting place—or in the same prefecture. It seems they may give more when something about meeting her made a particularly good impression, such as finding her more attractive than in her photos or enjoying the conversation. But I think only the person himself knows the real reason.
