How often would a woman have to meet men through papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan) in a month for you to think, “Wow, she’s really into papa-katsu”? I meet men about 15–20 times a month (sometimes it’s dinner only, of course), and I don’t have a boyfriend. I’m only studying, doing papa-katsu, and working part-time, so I’m wondering whether it’s really okay to spend my college years this way.

I’m Dai, a male member. If you’re new and receive around ten offers, meeting each person once or twice, then having 15–20 dates in your first month isn’t particularly surprising. But if you’re continuing to go on 15–20 dates a month with multiple men, I’d say you’re practically a papa-katsu professional… And I’m impressed that you’re also working a part-time job on top of all that.

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. If you meet the same girl about three times a week, that works out to around 12 or 13 times a month, so meeting 14.5 times or more would feel like a lot. That said, I once had a girl I met about 28 times in a month, so I think it’s possible to meet every day if it’s only for a short time. Sometimes, even when we’ve met the previous day or only had one day in between, we’ll both say, “Huh? Doesn’t it feel like it’s been forever?” Then one of us will realize, “Wait, we met yesterday—or maybe two days ago…”

You could simply call it a student life devoted to papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan). Akari

Liberal arts students have plenty of free time, after all. (Is that just a stereotype? No, I think it’s true.) Even doing that much probably wouldn’t affect your studies. In these COVID times, it must be difficult to maintain connections with others—university friends, clubs, seminars, and so on—so I think it’s much better than just sitting around doing nothing. Just don’t overdo it—keep it manageable so it doesn’t become stressful. Marika

I’m in Seattle. That works. Focus on your studies and be selective about papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan). You don’t really need a part-time job—just having one as a cover is enough.

I’m Flag Maker, a column writer. If it’s a girl I’m close with, I’ll think, “You’re doing your best—good for you!” But if I don’t know her, I honestly couldn’t care less. So maybe it’s fine as it is for now? Sorry for the half-assed answer(笑)

I’m Date◎Yume, a male member. I always thought you must be incredibly attractive, given how successful you are at papa-katsu (compensated dating in Japan). But as a student, I do think you may be doing a little too much papa-katsu. Why not narrow down your partners a bit and focus seriously on your studies?(笑)

I’m Kazu, a male member. I’d say more than 10 times a month is a lot, but if you’re studying, I don’t see a problem with it.
