How many male members have left Universe due to their businesses deteriorating because of COVID? I have a friend close to me in a similar situation, and it’s heartbreaking. Doesn’t it make you worry about your own situation too?

I’m Tetsu, a male member. I don’t think many people quit directly because their business is struggling. When business deteriorates, you end up working harder than ever on restructuring and managing cash flow, leaving you mentally drained as well. In most cases, I think people quit not because they can’t afford the membership fee or offer payments, but because they no longer have the time or mental capacity. Losing that kind of time and mental breathing room can happen to anyone for all sorts of reasons—not just because of a business downturn. So I don’t think this is something unique to COVID.

Ayase Nana♡ If this makes you feel sad, maybe you shouldn’t say all these things on a site like this. You probably shouldn’t make fun of other people either, right? Aren’t you scared yourself? Who are you talking about? Do you mean yourself? Or the person who answered?

I’m in Seattle. It’s tough in industries like food service and tourism. My industry is actually doing better than it was before COVID, though I’m not really benefiting from it.

Age: Private 👨 Male Universe staff
Maezawa from the president’s office here. Since this kind of thing doesn’t really come up among the Universe staff, I get the feeling that there are very few such cases—or that people simply fade out without saying anything. I don’t think anyone goes out of their way to say, “I’m quitting because the business has been affected by COVID.” As long as they’ve paid their annual membership fee, they remain members until their membership expires. Once it expires, they can simply choose not to renew and fade out.

I’m Kazu, a male member. If a male member has left Universe, that means he didn’t renew his membership, right? I don’t think the club would know about it either. I don’t know any business owners personally who are struggling financially. Maybe that’s because I don’t have many contacts in the restaurant industry. So, for now, I’m not particularly worried about businesses being hit hard by COVID.
