“Otsukaresama” is something you say when you meet or during the first toast.
Since it’s meant for someone after a long day at work—and to help them unwind and let off steam—I’d prefer a slightly different phrase…

Really? I’d never thought to ask whether people actually exchange that kind of greeting afterward, so I’m not sure if it’s normal.
I’m curious, though—when you say “quite a few,” how many people out of how many are we talking about?

Really? I’m not sure what exactly they’re saying “thanks for your hard work” for. When I was working for a company, I always found it a little odd when people said “otsukaresama desu” as a greeting—it might be the same kind of thing.

I can understand how you feel. I may have actually blurted it out without thinking. I feel bad because you probably weren’t having fun, yet you still put up with it—thank you. Maybe I’m just not confident around men.
