I’m absolutely opposed to holding the event. We’ll definitely see another explosive surge in infections. When that happens, no one will take responsibility anyway—but medical workers are already under immense strain.
You can’t buy lives with money. This way of thinking is far too naive.

I’m Basil, a male member.
I’m not interested in the Olympics themselves. If anything, they’re a nuisance because of the traffic restrictions and how much harder it is to find hotel rooms.
However, I’m against canceling them because of COVID, as well as the current state of emergency. Judging by the number of deaths and so on, I still don’t think it’s enough of a threat to warrant measures this extreme.
I have no scientific basis for saying this, but I think thorough mask-wearing and handwashing should be enough.

I’m in Seattle.
I’m in favor of it. Vaccinations are progressing, infection rates are falling, and I don’t think there’s any need to cancel as long as the athletes are kept in a reasonably isolated bubble.
It would be great if they could let in more than half the usual audience, too. It only happens once every 50 years.
Having the Olympics might even encourage everyone to stay home and watch TV. It’s practically been decided that they’re going ahead anyway, so I’m looking forward to the soccer and baseball.
