What do you think about taking lessons with my papa (a male supporter)? He invited me to work out at the gym together, and I like the idea, but I’m also worried about what other people might think…

I’m Taro, a male member. I’ve seen that sort of thing at gyms, but women there generally seem to show quite a bit of skin. Maybe they intend it as a service for the men around them, since a lot of them wear tops with very low necklines. If a woman has a great figure and is showing a lot of skin, I’ll sneak a few discreet glances and enjoy the view. If she’s covered up, I just think, “She doesn’t get it,” and leave it at that. If she doesn’t have much of a figure, she’s just part of the scenery to me. Men get even less attention—unless they look like someone who belongs on TV. So I’m not sure what you’re worried about, but basically, I think you’ll be fine.

I’m Paper Airplane, a male member. Jealous—no, wait, I’m starting to remember a nightmare… We’d talked about going to the gym together, decided which gym to join and where it would be. When the day finally came, I was excitedly waiting for us to sign up together, but… She left my messages unread and never replied. So embarrassing…

Maezawa from the CEO’s office here, answering as well. > I was invited to go to the gym together, and I thought it sounded nice, but… If you thought it sounded nice, I don’t see a problem with it. > I also feel a little self-conscious about what other people might think… If that’s how you feel, though, I think it might be better to pass for now. Maybe go once you stop worrying about other people’s eyes.

I’m Gaku, a male member. At gyms in upscale international hotels, there are usually hardly any people around, and even if there are, no one pays much attention to anyone else. Marriott, Hilton, and IHG hotels are good options. The Prince Hotel properties—especially the ones with “The” in their names—also tend to have well-equipped gyms. Private gyms could be another good option, so why not ask your papa (a male supporter) about it?

I’m Aya, a female member. If you’re clearly uncomfortable and worried about what people might think, it could make the situation even more awkward—and your papa (a male supporter) might notice, too. But if you’d feel comfortable going together openly, I think it’s totally fine. You might even grow closer, and it sounds like fun.

A class?! I thought, but if it’s just the gym, I don’t see a problem. People will see you and probably realize you’re a couple with an unusual arrangement, but if you don’t mind that, I think it’s fine. Marika As Taro said, men basically want to show off. Like, “Look at me—I’ve got such a young, fit girlfriend.” So I think you should wear a sports bra and leggings that show off your figure, let plenty of other men sneak a peek to drive up your value, and then make a point of showing that you’re dating him.

I’m Kazu, a male member. If you’re worried about what people around you might think, it’s probably best not to go through with it. Some women don’t mind, though, and may even invite you. Traveling seems to come with similar concerns, too.
