After our walk (lol), he gave me ¥10,000 for transportation, but when I got home and opened the envelope, there was ¥20,000 inside.
As someone mentioned in the previous answers, do you think he was testing me?
Would I make a better impression by pretending to return ¥10,000 and saying, “You gave me too much”?

Come to think of it, there was a woman who returned her allowance because we didn’t have sex. I was incredibly impressed by her, so when I couldn’t fit my schedule around her preferred date later on, I gave her spending money equal to the allowance.

I think offering 10,000 yen for being 20 minutes late shows that he really doesn’t want the person asking this question to dislike him.
If it were me, I’d probably say cutely, “I’ll give it back (>_<).” I’d genuinely feel a little bad, too.
There have been many times when I told someone I didn’t need the money, and for some reason, my allowance ended up increasing. Some men seem to want to give it even more when you say you don’t need it. Writing it like this makes me sound pretty money-minded, though…
When something unexpected happens, it might actually be a chance to negotiate a higher allowance.

In fact, I think saying you’re going to return it would make you even more likable. Even if you did end up returning it, if it improved their impression of you, I feel like things would remain secure going forward.
